Gentec, LLC is a Fort Wayne, Indiana based manufacturer of professional ranges and ovens for the high-end residential market. The company was founded in January 2003 by Mr. Gene Tippmann, though the genesis of the company predates its founding by nearly two decades. In 1984, Mr. Tippmann and his brother Robert formed a refrigeration coil business and pioneered efficient refrigeration techniques. Robert invented and patented a process for chilling meat which reduced shrinkage from 2.5 percent to 1.75 percent, resulting in substantial profitability gains by meat packing companies.

This discovery led Gene Tippmann to begin to focus on the other end of the food preparation process, cooking, which usually results in significantly more shrinkage, often as high as 8 percent. He applied the heat transfer principles from the refrigeration work to the cooking process. He ultimately invented and patented a reduced pressure cooking process that improves flavor and greatly reduces shrinkage. He also developed a heat distribution methodology that provides a cooking surface that maintains a uniform temperature within ± 1°F.  

In 1991, Mr. Tippmann and partner, Larry Redman, founded AccuTemp Products, Inc. to develop, produce, market and distribute innovative cooking products to the foodservice industry. AccuTemp began selling commercial steamers in 1993 based on Mr. Tippmann’s patented reduced pressure cooking technology. This product line experienced a compound annual growth rate of 100 percent from 1993 through 1997 and 43 percent growth through 2001. At that time, it accounted for more than 70 percent of the connectionless (no boiler) steamer market. AccuTemp also manufactures a line of commercial griddles utilizing Mr. Tippmann’s uniform temperature cooking technology.

In 2002, Mr. Tippmann sold his interest in AccuTemp Products, Inc. in order to form Gentec, LLC. He retains certain patent rights and the exclusive right to sell – in the residential market – similar products to those developed and sold by AccuTemp.
